Paediatrics

The practice of Paediatrics in Australia is very similar to that in any other westernised country such as the UK or Ireland.

Although Paediatric subspecialisation exists for most of the larger hospitals, and those in the large regional areas still employ general paediatricians. Most small rural hospitals may have a visting consulting paediatric service.

International Paediatrics Qualifications accepted as equivalent in Australia for practicing as a consultant:

UK/ EIRE MRCPCH , MRCP (Paeds), FRCP (Paeds) [London, Ireland, Edinburgh or Glasgow]
Accompanied by the Certificate of Accreditation in Paediatrics from the Joint Committee of Higher Medical Training in the United Kingdom or UK Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST)
USA Certificate of the American Board of Paediatrics
Canada Fellowship of Paediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Australia/ NZ Fellowship of Paediatrics from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians

Other qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
