Positions at specialist (consultant) level are commonly available in all the above subspecialties.
The practice of surgery in Australia is very similar to that in any other westernised country such as the UK or Ireland. The surgical techniques and equipment used are identical to what would be found in hospitals in these other countries.
As a rule most surgical teams in Australia consist of a Consultant (Specialist) plus one or more assistants depending upon the complexity of
International Surgical Qualifications accepted as equivalent in Australia and New Zealand for practicing as a consultant:
